Coverage and networks

The three major networks in Spain are Movistar, Orange and Vodafone, alongside Yoigo. Movistar has historically had the broadest coverage, including in the countryside and the Pyrenees. In cities and along the Costas, 4G and 5G are excellent, while mountainous inland areas and small villages are sometimes weaker. The Balearic and Canary Islands are well covered. Networks: Movistar, Orange, Vodafone.

For a week of beach holiday on the Costa Brava or Costa del Sol, 5 to 10 GB is more than enough. Many hotels and beach bars offer free wifi.

Spain falls under EU roaming, so EU travellers can surf there with their own bundle. An eSIM is mainly handy if your bundle is small or for longer stays.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in Spain?

Yes. Our eSIM gives you instant mobile data in Spain on the local networks, with no roaming fees. Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

How much data do I need for Spain?

It depends on your trip. For mostly maps and messaging, 1 to 3 GB is plenty. If you use navigation, social media and some streaming, plan for roughly 1 GB every two to three days.

How fast do I get my eSIM?

Right after payment. You receive a QR code on screen and by email immediately. It is best to install it at home over Wi-Fi before you leave.

Do I keep my own phone number?

Yes. Your own SIM stays in your phone for calls and texts. The eSIM runs alongside it, purely for mobile data in Spain.

What is the cheapest eSIM for Spain?

The cheapest eSIM for Spain at esimzu starts from €1,99, with a lowest-price guarantee. You pay in euros by Bancontact, card or crypto and receive the eSIM instantly by QR code, with no app or physical SIM card.

Does my eSIM also work on the Canary Islands and the Balearics?

Yes. The Canary Islands and the Balearics are part of Spain and are well covered by Movistar, Orange and Vodafone with 4G and 5G in tourist areas. A Spain or Europe eSIM works there just as well as on the mainland.

Do I still need an eSIM if I can surf via EU roaming?

Not strictly necessary, because Spain falls under the EU roaming rules. Still, many travellers choose an eSIM to save their home bundle or because they want more data than their plan allows.
