Coverage and networks

This combo eSIM covers two countries: the United States and Canada. In the US it connects to the T-Mobile and Verizon networks, in Canada to Rogers, with 4G and 5G where available. You install it once, and when you cross the border it switches to the right network by itself, drawing on the same data allowance. Coverage is strong in big cities such as New York, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, and along most busy highways. In national parks, deserts, Canada's sparsely populated north and on remote roads the signal often drops out, on any network. Networks: T-Mobile, Verizon, Rogers Wireless.

For a week-long city trip, 1 to 3 GB covers maps, messaging and some social media. For a road trip of two to four weeks with daily navigation, 10 or 20 GB is the comfortable choice, valid for 30 days.

The USA and Canada are not covered by EU roam-like-at-home rules, so unless your home plan already includes them, mobile data there costs extra, usually through a day pass or travel add-on. If your trip also takes in Mexico, choose the North America eSIM, which covers Mexico as well.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in USA & Canada?

Yes. Our eSIM gives you instant mobile data in USA & Canada on the local networks, with no roaming fees. Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

How much data do I need for USA & Canada?

It depends on your trip. For mostly maps and messaging, 1 to 3 GB is plenty. If you use navigation, social media and some streaming, plan for roughly 1 GB every two to three days.

How fast do I get my eSIM?

Right after payment. You receive a QR code on screen and by email immediately. It is best to install it at home over Wi-Fi before you leave.

Do I keep my own phone number?

Yes. Your own SIM stays in your phone for calls and texts. The eSIM runs alongside it, purely for mobile data in USA & Canada.

What is the cheapest eSIM for USA & Canada?

The cheapest eSIM for USA & Canada at esimzu starts from €3,49, with a lowest-price guarantee. You pay in euros by Bancontact, card or crypto and receive the eSIM instantly by QR code, with no app or physical SIM card.

Does the eSIM work when I drive from the US into Canada?

Yes. The eSIM detects the new country and switches automatically to Rogers in Canada or to T-Mobile or Verizon in the US. There is nothing to set up, and your data keeps counting down from the same allowance.

What if my phone picks up a network from the other country near the border?

In border areas such as Niagara Falls or between Detroit and Windsor, your phone can sometimes latch onto a network across the border. With this eSIM that is not a problem, because both countries are included in the same plan.

Do I need this combo if I am only visiting the US?

No. If you stay in the US for the whole trip, a US-only eSIM is usually better value per GB. The combo is handy as soon as your route includes Canada, for example the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, Toronto or the Canadian Rockies, because you get one eSIM and one data allowance for both countries.

Will I have reception in the national parks?

At visitor centres and in park towns it usually works, but in remote parts of parks such as Yellowstone and Death Valley, or along the Icefields Parkway between Lake Louise and Jasper, there is often no signal. Download offline maps before you set off.
