Coverage and networks

Mexico has three major mobile operators: Telcel, AT&T Mexico and Movistar. Telcel has by far the best national coverage, with mobile internet for more than 92 percent of the country and the most reliable connection. AT&T is strong in cities and tourist areas such as Cancun and Los Cabos, with 5G in the larger centres. Networks: Telcel, AT&T, Movistar.

For a round trip with navigation and maps we recommend at least 10 GB. Telcel coverage is the broadest if you also visit remote areas.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in Mexico?

Yes. Our eSIM gives you instant mobile data in Mexico on the local networks, with no roaming fees. Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

How much data do I need for Mexico?

It depends on your trip. For mostly maps and messaging, 1 to 3 GB is plenty. If you use navigation, social media and some streaming, plan for roughly 1 GB every two to three days.

How fast do I get my eSIM?

Right after payment. You receive a QR code on screen and by email immediately. It is best to install it at home over Wi-Fi before you leave.

Do I keep my own phone number?

Yes. Your own SIM stays in your phone for calls and texts. The eSIM runs alongside it, purely for mobile data in Mexico.

What is the cheapest eSIM for Mexico?

The cheapest eSIM for Mexico at esimzu starts from €2,99, with a lowest-price guarantee. You pay in euros by Bancontact, card or crypto and receive the eSIM instantly by QR code, with no app or physical SIM card.

Which provider has the best coverage for a round trip through Mexico?

Telcel has the broadest coverage in the whole country, including in smaller towns and rural areas. Our eSIM uses the strongest local networks, so you stay connected outside the tourist zones too during your round trip.

Do I have 5G in Mexico?

5G is available in big cities and tourist destinations such as Mexico City, Cancun and Los Cabos, mainly via Telcel and AT&T. Outside the urban areas you usually fall back on 4G/LTE, which is more than enough for navigation and streaming.
