Coverage and networks

The main mobile networks in Belgium are Proximus, Orange Belgium and Telenet, which also runs the BASE brand, and newcomer Digi entered the market at the end of 2024. Our eSIM for Belgium connects to Proximus, on 5G where it is available, and to Orange and BASE on 4G, and connects automatically to an available network, so there is nothing to set up. In Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, Liege and along the coast, 4G is strong almost everywhere. Only in some deep valleys of the Ardennes can the signal briefly drop. Networks: Proximus, Orange, BASE.

For a week exploring Brussels, Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp, 3 to 5 GB is enough for maps, messaging and social media. If you work on the road or use your phone as a hotspot, take 10 GB, and for a longer stay the 50 GB plan stays valid for 180 days.

Coming from another EU or EEA country? Your home plan already works in Belgium at domestic rates under roam like at home, so an eSIM mainly helps if your EU data allowance is small. Visitors from outside the EU roaming area, for example from the UK, the US, Morocco or Turkey, often pay much more to roam with their home plan than for a data eSIM.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in Belgium?

Yes. Our eSIM gives you instant mobile data in Belgium on the local networks, with no roaming fees. Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

How much data do I need for Belgium?

It depends on your trip. For mostly maps and messaging, 1 to 3 GB is plenty. If you use navigation, social media and some streaming, plan for roughly 1 GB every two to three days.

How fast do I get my eSIM?

Right after payment. You receive a QR code on screen and by email immediately. It is best to install it at home over Wi-Fi before you leave.

Do I keep my own phone number?

Yes. Your own SIM stays in your phone for calls and texts. The eSIM runs alongside it, purely for mobile data in Belgium.

What is the cheapest eSIM for Belgium?

The cheapest eSIM for Belgium at esimzu starts from €1,99, with a lowest-price guarantee. You pay in euros by Bancontact, card or crypto and receive the eSIM instantly by QR code, with no app or physical SIM card.

Do I need an eSIM in Belgium if I live in another EU country?

Not necessarily. Belgium is in the EU, so under roam like at home your calls, texts and data from an EU or EEA plan (including Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) work at domestic rates, and since 1 January 2026 the same applies to plans from Ukraine and Moldova. An eSIM is still useful if your plan includes little EU data, if you stay for several months, since operators may apply fair use rules to long stays abroad, or if you simply want a separate data bundle.

Who benefits most from an eSIM for Belgium?

Mainly visitors from outside the EU roaming area: family or friends from Morocco, Turkey, the US or the UK, business travellers and students. Since Brexit, UK operators are no longer bound by EU roaming rules and many charge a daily fee in Belgium. With an eSIM you are online as soon as you land at Brussels Airport or Charleroi, or arrive by train at Brussels-Midi.

Why not just buy a Belgian prepaid SIM card?

In Belgium every prepaid SIM card has to be registered to its user, usually with an ID card or passport, before you can use it. That means extra steps after you arrive. A data eSIM is installed online before you leave, so you are connected the moment you land.

Does the eSIM also work on a day trip to the Netherlands or France?

An eSIM for Belgium only works in Belgium. If you combine several countries, choose a Europe plan instead and check that every country on your route is on its list, for example for a Benelux tour or a stopover in Paris.
