Coverage and networks

The major operators in Chile are Entel, Movistar, Claro and WOM. Entel is known for the broadest coverage and the fastest 5G, while WOM has the best 5G availability in cities. In Santiago and the densely populated central zone, coverage is excellent, but in sparsely populated areas the network becomes thinner. Networks: Entel, Movistar, Claro.

Chile is long and narrow, so for a round trip 10 GB or more is recommended. Plan offline maps for desert and Patagonia stretches where the signal drops out.

In the Atacama desert between Copiapo and Antofagasta there are large dead zones with no coverage at all, so prepare for hours without reception there.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in Chile?

Yes. Our eSIM gives you instant mobile data in Chile on the local networks, with no roaming fees. Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

How much data do I need for Chile?

It depends on your trip. For mostly maps and messaging, 1 to 3 GB is plenty. If you use navigation, social media and some streaming, plan for roughly 1 GB every two to three days.

How fast do I get my eSIM?

Right after payment. You receive a QR code on screen and by email immediately. It is best to install it at home over Wi-Fi before you leave.

Do I keep my own phone number?

Yes. Your own SIM stays in your phone for calls and texts. The eSIM runs alongside it, purely for mobile data in Chile.

What is the cheapest eSIM for Chile?

The cheapest eSIM for Chile at esimzu starts from €2,99, with a lowest-price guarantee. You pay in euros by Bancontact, card or crypto and receive the eSIM instantly by QR code, with no app or physical SIM card.

Is there mobile reception in the Atacama desert and Patagonia?

In villages like San Pedro de Atacama and larger towns there is coverage, but between Copiapo and Antofagasta and in remote Patagonia there are long stretches without signal. Download offline maps in advance.

Which network has the best coverage in Chile?

Entel offers the broadest national coverage and the fastest 5G and is the safest choice for round trips. WOM scores well on 5G availability in cities, but less so outside urban areas.
