Coverage and networks

Guadeloupe is a French overseas department in the Caribbean, made up of the two main islands of Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre plus smaller islands such as Marie-Galante, Les Saintes and La Désirade. The main mobile operators are Orange, SFR Caraïbe, Digicel and Free Caraïbe. Our eSIM for Guadeloupe runs on the Orange network. Around Pointe-à-Pitre, Le Gosier, Sainte-Anne and Saint-François and along the coastal roads you can usually count on smooth 4G. In the mountainous rainforest of the national park on Basse-Terre, around La Soufrière volcano, the signal can weaken or drop out for a while. Networks: Orange.

For a week-long beach holiday with maps, WhatsApp and some social media, 3 to 5 GB is enough. If you rent a car to explore both main islands or stay two to three weeks, take 10 GB or more.

As a French overseas region, Guadeloupe is part of the EU, so plans from EU and EEA countries work there under roam-like-at-home rules. An eSIM pays off if your EU data allowance is limited, or if your home plan comes from outside the EU and EEA and roaming there is not included.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in Guadeloupe?

Yes. Our eSIM gives you instant mobile data in Guadeloupe on the local networks, with no roaming fees. Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

How much data do I need for Guadeloupe?

It depends on your trip. For mostly maps and messaging, 1 to 3 GB is plenty. If you use navigation, social media and some streaming, plan for roughly 1 GB every two to three days.

How fast do I get my eSIM?

Right after payment. You receive a QR code on screen and by email immediately. It is best to install it at home over Wi-Fi before you leave.

Do I keep my own phone number?

Yes. Your own SIM stays in your phone for calls and texts. The eSIM runs alongside it, purely for mobile data in Guadeloupe.

What is the cheapest eSIM for Guadeloupe?

The cheapest eSIM for Guadeloupe at esimzu starts from €1,99, with a lowest-price guarantee. You pay in euros by Bancontact, card or crypto and receive the eSIM instantly by QR code, with no app or physical SIM card.

Does EU roaming apply in Guadeloupe?

Yes, for plans from the EU and EEA. Guadeloupe is an outermost region of the EU, so you can call, text and use data as at home, just like in mainland France, although your operator may apply a fair use limit on EU data. Travellers with a plan from the UK, Switzerland, the US or Canada are not covered by these EU rules and should check their own operator's roaming rates before they go.

Will I have signal in the rainforest and on the smaller islands?

Coverage is good in the coastal towns and tourist areas of Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre. Deep in the national park, on hiking trails to La Soufrière or the Carbet Falls, the signal can drop out, so download an offline map beforehand. On Marie-Galante and Les Saintes you usually have signal in and around the villages, although speeds can be lower there.

Does this eSIM also work on Saint-Martin or Saint-Barthélemy?

Those islands have been separate French territories since 2007 and are no longer part of Guadeloupe. This eSIM is meant for Guadeloupe itself, so for Saint-Martin or Saint-Barthélemy choose the plan for that island. Note that Saint-Barthélemy is not part of the EU, so EU roaming rules do not apply there.
