The Gulf Region eSIM covers 6 countries with a single eSIM: the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq. It uses Etisalat (e&) and du in the UAE, Mobily in Saudi Arabia, Ooredoo in Qatar, Ooredoo and STC in Kuwait, STC in Bahrain, and Korek and Asiacell in Iraq. In cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, Doha, Kuwait City and Manama you can generally expect fast 4G, and 5G where the network offers it. In Iraq the connection runs on 4G, without 5G. Oman is not included in this bundle. Networks: Etisalat (UAE), du (UAE), Mobily (Saudi Arabia), Ooredoo (Qatar, Kuwait), STC (Kuwait, Bahrain), Korek (Iraq), Asiacell (Iraq).
For a stopover in Dubai or Doha, 1 GB valid for 7 days is enough. For a one to two week trip across several countries choose 3 to 5 GB, and if you video call a lot take 10 GB, keeping in mind that this plan works without 5G.
None of the countries in this bundle are in the EU, so EU roam-like-at-home rules do not apply. Unless your home plan explicitly includes these countries, data there is billed as roaming and can add up quickly. With this eSIM you pay once, upfront, for a fixed bundle that works in all 6 countries.

On local SIM cards in the UAE, voice and video calls via WhatsApp and FaceTime are restricted. In the other countries in this bundle it depends on the country and the network. A travel eSIM works through roaming, so calling via these apps often works in practice, although this is not guaranteed. Messaging works normally.
The eSIM switches automatically to a network in the new country, usually within a few minutes, including when you drive across the King Fahd Causeway. Keep data roaming switched on and there is nothing else to set up, your data allowance simply keeps counting down.
Yes, in Iraq the eSIM connects to Korek and Asiacell on 4G. In major cities such as Baghdad, Basra, Erbil and Sulaymaniyah there is generally 4G coverage. In rural areas and the desert coverage is more limited, just as with a local SIM card.
