Coverage and networks

Montenegro has three operators: Crnogorski Telekom, One (the former Telenor) and Mtel. Together they cover almost the entire country with 4G, including in the tourist coastal towns such as Kotor, Budva and Bar. Mtel and Crnogorski Telekom have the strongest coverage in the mountainous and rural regions, where the others' signals sometimes drop out. Networks: Crnogorski Telekom, One, Mtel.

Local tourist packages are generous here, so feel free to choose a larger data package. For the mountainous interior such as Durmitor, it is best to download your maps offline in advance.

Montenegro is not part of the EU, so your free EU roaming does not apply there and an eSIM saves considerably on costs.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in Montenegro?

Yes. Our eSIM gives you instant mobile data in Montenegro on the local networks, with no roaming fees. Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

How much data do I need for Montenegro?

It depends on your trip. For mostly maps and messaging, 1 to 3 GB is plenty. If you use navigation, social media and some streaming, plan for roughly 1 GB every two to three days.

How fast do I get my eSIM?

Right after payment. You receive a QR code on screen and by email immediately. It is best to install it at home over Wi-Fi before you leave.

Do I keep my own phone number?

Yes. Your own SIM stays in your phone for calls and texts. The eSIM runs alongside it, purely for mobile data in Montenegro.

What is the cheapest eSIM for Montenegro?

The cheapest eSIM for Montenegro at esimzu starts from €2,49, with a lowest-price guarantee. You pay in euros by Bancontact, card or crypto and receive the eSIM instantly by QR code, with no app or physical SIM card.

Do I have coverage in the mountains, for example around Durmitor park?

In the mountainous and rural regions, Mtel and Crnogorski Telekom offer the best coverage, although the signal can drop out in remote valleys. So download your hiking routes and maps offline in advance.

Does Montenegro fall under the EU roaming of my plan?

No, Montenegro is not an EU member, so your free EU roaming does not apply there and ordinary roaming is expensive. With an eSIM you pay a fixed, low rate and are online immediately on arrival.
