Coverage and networks

Oman has three mobile operators: Omantel, Ooredoo and Vodafone Oman. After the completion of the 3G shutdown in 2025, the country achieves around 99 percent 4G coverage and around 90 percent 5G coverage. Omantel scores strongest on coverage and 5G reach, while Vodafone performs well on speed in the cities. Outside Muscat and the coastal towns, coverage is naturally thinner in desert areas. Networks: Omantel, Ooredoo, Vodafone Oman.

For a week-long trip with navigation and social media, a bundle of 5 to 10 GB is comfortable. Anyone spending a lot of time in remote desert areas should plan offline maps as a backup.

On local Omani networks, voice and video calls via WhatsApp and FaceTime may be blocked, but via a travel eSIM on roaming they often still work.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in Oman?

Yes. Our eSIM gives you instant mobile data in Oman on the local networks, with no roaming fees. Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

How much data do I need for Oman?

It depends on your trip. For mostly maps and messaging, 1 to 3 GB is plenty. If you use navigation, social media and some streaming, plan for roughly 1 GB every two to three days.

How fast do I get my eSIM?

Right after payment. You receive a QR code on screen and by email immediately. It is best to install it at home over Wi-Fi before you leave.

Do I keep my own phone number?

Yes. Your own SIM stays in your phone for calls and texts. The eSIM runs alongside it, purely for mobile data in Oman.

What is the cheapest eSIM for Oman?

The cheapest eSIM for Oman at esimzu starts from €2,99, with a lowest-price guarantee. You pay in euros by Bancontact, card or crypto and receive the eSIM instantly by QR code, with no app or physical SIM card.

Can I call via WhatsApp or FaceTime in Oman?

On local Omani SIM cards, internet calling features of WhatsApp and FaceTime are often blocked. A travel eSIM that connects via roaming usually bypasses this restriction, so calling via these apps keeps working.

Is there good coverage outside Muscat in Oman?

Along the main roads, in cities and coastal towns the 4G coverage is excellent. In the remote desert and mountains, such as parts of the Wahiba Sands, the signal can drop out. Omantel usually has the largest reach there.
