Coverage and networks

The Cayman Islands are made up of three islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. The main mobile operators are Flow (Cable & Wireless) and Digicel, and our travel eSIM runs on the Flow network, which has signal on all three islands. On Grand Cayman, including George Town, Seven Mile Beach and West Bay, coverage is good. Flow has also offered 5G since June 2024, and where 5G is not yet available the eSIM switches to 4G. On the quieter Sister Islands the network is less dense, so the signal can be weaker in remote spots. Networks: Flow.

For a beach week with maps, messaging and some social media, 3 to 5 GB is usually enough, since most hotels and resorts offer WiFi. For a single cruise day ashore, 1 GB is plenty.

The Cayman Islands are a British Overseas Territory outside the EU, so EU roam-like-at-home rules do not apply and roaming on a European home plan adds up quickly. With an eSIM you know your data allowance in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in Cayman Islands?

Yes. Our eSIM gives you instant mobile data in Cayman Islands on the local networks, with no roaming fees. Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

How much data do I need for Cayman Islands?

It depends on your trip. For mostly maps and messaging, 1 to 3 GB is plenty. If you use navigation, social media and some streaming, plan for roughly 1 GB every two to three days.

How fast do I get my eSIM?

Right after payment. You receive a QR code on screen and by email immediately. It is best to install it at home over Wi-Fi before you leave.

Do I keep my own phone number?

Yes. Your own SIM stays in your phone for calls and texts. The eSIM runs alongside it, purely for mobile data in Cayman Islands.

What is the cheapest eSIM for Cayman Islands?

The cheapest eSIM for Cayman Islands at esimzu starts from €7,49, with a lowest-price guarantee. You pay in euros by Bancontact, card or crypto and receive the eSIM instantly by QR code, with no app or physical SIM card.

Does EU roaming apply in the Cayman Islands?

No. The Cayman Islands are a British Overseas Territory and not part of the EU, so free EU roaming from a European home plan does not apply. Roaming is charged per use and adds up fast, which is why a travel eSIM with a fixed data bundle is the simpler choice.

Will the eSIM work when my cruise ship calls at George Town?

Yes. As soon as your ship is off George Town or you are ashore, the eSIM connects to the Flow network. The eSIM only works in the Cayman Islands, so for other ports on your cruise you need an eSIM for that country. At sea, keep data roaming switched off for your regular SIM, because on board your phone can connect to the ship's costly maritime network.

Do I have signal on Cayman Brac and Little Cayman?

Yes, Flow also has signal on Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. The network is less dense than on Grand Cayman, so the signal can drop in remote spots. Download an offline map to be safe.

Is there 5G in the Cayman Islands?

Yes, Flow and Digicel launched their 5G services in June 2024. With a 5G-capable phone, our eSIM uses 5G where Flow offers it and otherwise 4G, which is more than enough for maps, messaging and video calls.
