Coverage and networks

Mongolia's mobile market is led by Mobicom and Unitel, with Skytel and G-Mobile also operating. Coverage is solid in Ulaanbaatar and provincial centres, with 4G widely available in cities and 5G appearing in the capital. Outside towns, signal drops off quickly across the steppe, Gobi and remote provinces, where you may have no service for long stretches. Mobicom and Unitel generally offer the broadest reach, but no carrier covers truly remote areas reliably. Networks: Mobicom, Unitel, Skytel, G-Mobile.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in Mongolia?

Yes. Our eSIM gives you instant mobile data in Mongolia on the local networks, with no roaming fees. Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

How much data do I need for Mongolia?

It depends on your trip. For mostly maps and messaging, 1 to 3 GB is plenty. If you use navigation, social media and some streaming, plan for roughly 1 GB every two to three days.

How fast do I get my eSIM?

Right after payment. You receive a QR code on screen and by email immediately. It is best to install it at home over Wi-Fi before you leave.

Do I keep my own phone number?

Yes. Your own SIM stays in your phone for calls and texts. The eSIM runs alongside it, purely for mobile data in Mongolia.
